This anime retells the story of the PS3-game with minor changes, so if you know the story from the game already, you know what will happen the anime.
Although i played the game, i still enjoyed the series, because it really has a good story and animation is well done. The music is used from the game but that is not a negative aspect, because it was good in the game, so why should it not be good here? The characters are mostly intact, i had the feeling though, that some characters didnt get much screentime, although they are leads in the game. Some characters differ slightly from their game counterparts, while others did get more background and further developement with this series.

Overall, its a nice anime and great when you want to experience the story of the game but dont want to play the game itself. (show less)

This is a difficult anime to watch, its both entertaining and anoying. The animation is good in parts and badly done in others often repeating the same scenes over and over, and its done so obviously you wish this was a comedy anime and not just an embarrasing one. I've never seen another anime with a theme on war with less discipline and a huge lack of common sense as this one. The female main character is an idiot and loves to scream in enemy territory even next to the enemy base, but thats ok as the enemy never hears it. In episode 5 she gets shot by a sniper which the bullet grazes her leg, she of course collapses to the floor looking quite unconcious and has to be dragged to cover by another team member to where shes imediately awake again and can run... she gets shot at again at the end of the episode by several soldiers and stands there for a few seconds while the bullets are bouncing around her feet before jumping to get cover at this point i start thinking she must be related to Fortune from MGS to be so bullet proof apart from that sniper incident. most of the soldiers like to fire their weapons without aiming so its no wonder they cant hit anything but thats ok they have infinite ammo. I reccomend this anime to watch and see for your self, you might like it, you might not. Though I dont reccomend it for people with any common sense. This anime would be good if the story just wasn't so serious... (show less)

If world war two had more mini skirts involved, and enough anime archetypes to fill a high school then you would have Valkyria Chronicles.

Valkyria Chronicles follows the "war is bad" theme, without beating you over the head with it. There are the archetype characters that we have all seen before in each each of the squad members, and most of them arent given enough time to for the audience to become attached to. The plot follows Welkin Gunther as he leads squad seven, in the effort to push the invading Imperial forces out their country. The plot itself follows the game plot pretty closely, but changes some parts to shake things up.

If you played the game, you know whats going to happen. But there are enough new things here to keep you interested. (show less)

This was a good drama, war story and had all the right ingredients-action, magic, sort of an alternative world, likable heroic characters, bishounen, bishoujo, but for me it fell just a little short of excellent. Maybe the story didn't expand as far as it could have or the main heroine's powers and the history behind them weren't explained fully. Also, the ending was abrupt and the comrades disbanded without really a feeling of resolution. Also, the character development was kind of flat so it was hard to build a strong sympathy for any of the characters. Also the plot development is a little slow and then winds up really fast towards the last few episodes.

Nevertheless, it's still a good watch and if you're looking for some fighting, some military situations/relations, romance, and a heroine with superhuman powers, then you'll enjoy it. (show less)
