In Kyoto, there are three kinds of residents: humans, raccoon dogs, and tengu. Shimogamo Yasaburou is the third son of the Shimogamo raccoon dog family. His father, Souichirou, had been the head of Kyoto raccoon dog community until he was eaten by the human members of "Friday Club". While taking care of old tengu, fighting with other raccoon dogs, and playing with a psychic human girl, Yasaburou approaches the truth of his father's death. |

I find myself on the lookout for tanuki now when I look out of the window. The Eccentric Family is that good.
There's three episodes out so far, and I'm still not entirely sure where the show is going. That says something in itself, and though it's a bit sad how I can't really see an even hinted conflict so far, it's overall nice to see something unpredictable. The pace is lazy, however where it doesn't really help the lacking bigger conflict, it makes for some awesome situations xD. The Eccentric Family is more about characters and dialogue than about story and/or action, though. And the characters are alive no doubt; they've got personality, they're really not clichéd at all, and they're quite funny to watch, especially the main character. The dialogue has a couple LOL moments, yet it gets serious moments across as well. Character relations aren't that obvious from the get-go, however they're starting to get clearer, and the dialogue makes for good drama between its jokes. The animation is awesome as well; bug-free, with plenty of movement, and Yasaburo's transforming antics can be bizarrely funny, for example how he keeps his body language even when transforming into a school girl. The lush background art only helps, even if the characters seem to have weird ears.
It's an appealing concept, and I definitely like what The Eccentric Family does so far. It's not really clear where it is going, but it's fun, and that's what's important. 9/10 from me, not my favourite this season, however if it manages to incorporate some more substance/conflict/character development into its lazy pace, it'll sure be a very close tier.
