Keima Katsuragi is an avid galge gamer known at his school as "Otamega" (a derogatory term combining the words Otaku and Megane) and on the internet a "The Capturing God." One day he receives an e-mail offering him a contract to "capture" girls. He accepts thinking it's a challenge and a demon from Hell named Elsee appears. She asks for his help in capturing runaway spirits that are hiding in "real" girls. He refuses stating he only like the girls from the game and she tells him that if he refuses then both of their heads will be cut off. |

the things that i like about this anime is that, it have refreshingly new idea for the story. besides, i really love the voice of elsi, and the characters look cute too. but, 1 thing i did not really like is the ways that the protagonist conquer the girls. i don't really think that through their plan, the girls will really fall for him.. but still, it's one of my favourite, and i can't wait for s3 to come out. :)

I have to be honest, I wanted to like this show. The concept had me laughing for a few episodes. But, the character development over this first series is lacking. I don't feel like our protagonist grows in any meaningful way, and that doesn't help me relate to him. As a result, the story feels disjointed; and after a while, boring.
That said, I think it's good to watch an episode once in a while. It's not a show to marathon though.

as though i was looking foward to watch this anime because im reading the manga, i was quickly disapointed that the art is different from the manga
Elsie looks older here while in the manga she has a face more of a child
the colour wasnt that very well placed either
and i was VERY disapointed that my favourite females (Haqua, Tenri/Diana, etc.) were not going to appear in this season
i know the 2nd season does have Haqua but im unsure of tenri or my other favourites
its an excellent storyline from the manga but i wish that the art was at least ( read more)

By repetitive I mean each arch follows the same steps. The main characters also have some catch phrases wich I didn't really like. There were some meaningless episodes about galge (especially the last one) but enough with the negative stuff. Overall "The World Only God Knows" was enjoyable.
The story is pretty good because it tries to break the stereotypes set in other series and galge. The archs(/girls) are diverse so I'm sure everyone has a different opinion on wich were better. Personally I wouldn't have mind if they made each 'conquest' a ( read more)

Personally I wouldn't have mind if they made each 'conquest' a bit longer and took more time to introduce the characters and deepen the relationship. Some of the endings seemed a bit rushed and unrealistic. I hope they fix this now that there's a second season.
The conversations can be really funny. Apart from the catch phrases, no complaints.
The animation is as expected. I kind of liked the intro, music and animation. The outro wasn't bad either.
Although it has it's flaws and I wouldn't rank it amongst the best I've seen, I would still recommend it eventually. ( show less)

I won't ruin the ending but it is definitely not what you expect what is going to happen. I guess it makes it unique from generic endings. However, they did announce a season 2 so who knows.
Story: The story is good, it was original but it wasn't an amazing story, the main character has to go around and free girls from being possessed by winning their heart. I have never really heard of a story like this but it does remind me of a generic dating sim or multi scenario game, which I'm sure they were aiming for. Story: The story is good, it was original but it wasn't an amazing story, the main character has to go around and free girls from being possessed by winning their heart. I have never really heard of a story like this but it does remind me of a generic dating sim or multi scenario game, which I'm sure they were aiming for. With the unique story, they definitely capture you into watching the next episode to see what happens next. However, the fillers between girls were slightly disappointing and they could have been shortened. I know they were trying to build character development but they just wasted too much time where they could have easily done the same thing in half of the time they took. However, there are really generic characters that are not part of the girls he is trying to woo. The mother for instance, her background has been done before, there are waaaaay too many anime moms that act that way. The partner is also extremely annoying, despite her character is supposed to be a brain dead buffoon, they really just make her annoying and unnecessary half of the time, they could have definitely at least lowered her annoying level but keep her stupidity level or raise it. She is just a character you cannot like no matter how much you try unless you are just a fan boy who looks at appearances only
Dialog: Okay, I know I gave it an average but there was good reason that I did so. The interaction with the girl characters are really lame, With a limited amount of time for each episode, I understand they have to push the fantasy idea that they can be wooed so easily but girls do not act that way unless they are caught in some romantic dating sim. Of course they did prove the main character wrong sometimes and the idea that dating sims can help him score with girls, they should have at least made the girls more than just generic weak girls that break down in front of a complete stranger. Though I am upset about that, the dialog was very well written and the flow between characters was fairly good. The girl interaction could have been better, more believable and not just some fan boy's fantasy that this would happen. The interaction with the main character and his game was also good. He acted perfectly in this situation.
Animation: The animation works, it fits the story and really I don't think that it could really be any better. It display cute like characters that are not extremely detailed or looking like they are only 5 years old. By far they nailed this perfectly.
Entertainment: Don't get me wrong, it was entertaining enough but it is not an anime that will make you laugh at all the funny parts nor does it keep you emotionally attached to any of the girls he meets. Its more like, OMG another girl... done. Forget her and move onto the next girl. Shortening the boring character development scenes with the main character and the bimbo side kick, they could have spent more time to built each girl better and make you want to like each of them. This would also fix the problem of instant love possibly. Once again, the ending was soooooo terrible that I cannot give entertainment level anymore than just average, I am sorry if you disagree with me.
Overall: Overall the anime is worth the effort to watch, you have to have an open mind instead of believe oh god this is just fan service and perverted ideas, which I originally believed. At the end of this anime, you will be relieved to know there is a second season. However, I don't recommend this anime to people who overthink situations like this, like me and it might be dangerous should you believe that girls would like this show. It is really a 50-50% chance really.
Its not the best anime I've seen but it would be placed in the top 20 for 2010 anime. If you have free time, watch this and see what you think. Also the opening song is amazing to listen to. Ending... not so much. Also be careful, there are some scenes after the credits sometimes. ( show less)
