Wouldn't make this long, but have too much to say.And beware!the score i gave is tainted as i'm biased when it comes to this series. The story had so much in stock,if only the director hadn't got ahead of himself and kept the animation at OVA level and stuck to the breathtaking manga...Many are debating as to when the series is gonna end up like School Days which came in as a shock to me.To all those who're about to drop it,please bear with it a tad longer;if even a fragment of the manga is conveyed to perfection, you wouldn't regret watching this...

It's too early to judge this one once and for all; however, like the title says, I found Kimi no Iru Machi's first episode to be quite enjoyable. Its story has potential, the characters are interesting and not too stereotypical, and the emotion is definitely there. The art looks pretty and colourful, and the music is quite well-done; only the animation technique could need some more fluidity IMHO.
My bigger gripe is that the first episode throws you right into the midst of the story and leaves you hanging as to what's going on in terms of backstory/setup. ( read more)

My bigger gripe is that the first episode throws you right into the midst of the story and leaves you hanging as to what's going on in terms of backstory/setup. Lots of things are hinted at, yet it's not quite clear to me what's going on. It's still early, so that's not necessarily a bad thing, yet it is something I'm not used to from shoujo dromcoms (drama/romance/comedies). I hope the next few episodes are going to uncover some more of the bigger picture.
Either way, Kimi no Iru Machi so far looks like an entertaining series with definite potential in terms of plot and character/relationship development. 8.5/10 from me, however that's a mere first impression and probably not to be taken too seriously. ;) ( show less)

As someone who has read Kimi no Iru Machi manga, I've been waiting with great anticipation for this anime adaptation of what is one of my favorite manga's to date. Finally the anime has started, and I can share some insight as what to expect from this anime.
Firstly, it must be said that the anime does NOT follow the manga from the start. The anime starts at a point rather deep into the manga (although honestly I cannot remember where that point is). Firstly, it must be said that the anime does NOT follow the manga from the start. The anime starts at a point rather deep into the manga (although honestly I cannot remember where that point is). So; if like me you've read the manga, don't be surprised by this. Personally I would have preferred if the anime covered the manga from the start, however, this decision is not too bad either. In fact, it's rather interesting. I look forward to seeing how the animation studio (Gonzo; NHK, Full Metal Panic) will cover the manga material this way.
Now, to point out aspects that those of you who have not read the manga want to know, the anime itself shows great potential. I can only speak very highly of the story (as I know what to expect). It's a teenage love story/drama; and this being my preferred genre of anime, it is one of the better ones out there. I cannot however say that the plot of the anime itself will be good, as I have mentioned earlier, the starting point is odd. I am confident, however, that it will be pulled off well.
The graphics/quality of the drawing of the anime is very good. I will go as far as to say that it is one of the better looking anime's I've seen of this genre. It does have a "soft" appearance, but the feeling it gives off is unique. A "real", more "gritty" style. The only setback is the actual animation quality. It is not particularity great, in fact it's nearly disappointing. The facial expressions and character movements almost look "cheap". Thankfully the overall image quality makes up for this to an extent. The voice acting so far is also not too bad. Not amazing either. However, many other characters are yet to be introduced.
Even with the few shortcomings that I have pointed out, I still have high hopes for this anime. Not only that, but it is far too early to actually "review" it. I loved the manga and I am looking forward to seeing it as an anime. For those of you who have no knowledge of this - Give it a try. :) I recommend it. Greatly. If you like it. Consider the manga.
