Somewhere in the vast sea of the Internet, there's a website that can only be accessed at the stroke of midnight. Known as the Jigoku Tsushin, rumor has it that if you post a grudge there, the Jigoku Shoujo will appear and drag whoever torments you into the inferno. Very little is known about the girl - all we know for sure is that she lives with her equally enigmatic grandmother, that three magical straw dolls accompany and serve her, and that whenever a posting on the Jigoku Tsushin moves her, she becomes the Jigoku Shoujo. |

Every episode is a story on its own. But the same thing happens almost every episode. People get hurt by other people and they want revenge. They go to a website where a girl promises them revenge. She can send them to hell immediatly, but in return they too must go to hell once they die.
Its a sad story because it shows daily hardships that people experience, how selfish people are and how sometimes things dont become better.
It gets a little repetitive at the start and it takes a while before the main story unfolds, but I can garantee its worth ( read more)

If you like mystery/slice of life and dont mind a sad story then I would deffinitly recommend this. ( show less)

I was very intrigued by the story line of this anime. There were some episodes that were boring, but then there were others that were very intense. It always kept me guessing and I wasn't expecting the outcome at the end. Excellent Anime

Characters in this anime are victims who can't stand any more pain and than they become desperate and seek help in jigoku shoujo, a girl from hell. But when they accept covenant wirh her, they become sinners. Some person who commits a mortal sin is one who knows that their sin is wrong. In this anime, direct and intentional killing is gravely sinful And because a life on earth seems unbearable to them, they are ready to suffer eternally in hell. the connection between characters, and psichology of the vicims and bullies. Shibata Hajime is a great positive person with a good, bright character traits and Enma Ai is a great in a negative and a sad, dark way. Hell girl is not be for people who love fast story line with action, but if you like tragedy and violence this is for you ( show less)

It was okay. The main story was great, but I felt it took too long to emerge from the main storyline. On the other hand I think it was done very well because without the large ammount of episodes we wouldn't get to see the bond between Hajime and Tsugumi develop. Although the episode to episode format was a bit grating and repetitive, the interactions between the characters made it worthwhile and I can appreciate the ending more. (I wanted so many times to throw something at the screen going somebody just give Tsugumi a hug ; w ; )

Animation was OK, only the last few episodes really were 'entertaining' to me, but I'm still going to watch the next series anyway :3 ( show less)

Despite centuries of civilisation, the vicious cycle of hatred, revenge and vengeance in human race is still prevalent. This is all manifested through the use of Hell Correspondence as shown by this season and its sequels. Putting that aside, this anime reveals the foolishness and short-mindedness of human in facing issues by reverting to the use of Hell Correspondence. If you like Slice of Life anime, then this is the right anime for you.
