The story begins with a flashback to Feudal Japan, when the half-demon InuYasha raids a human village to steal the Sacred Jewel of Four Souls, a magical jewel that enhances its wielder's powers and can grant a single wish. InuYasha hopes to use the gem to turn himself into a full-blooded demon, but is soon stopped when Kikyo, the young miko of the village, shoots him with a sacred arrow, sealing him onto the sacred tree Goshinboku in the nearby forest. Mortally wounded, Kikyo tells her younger sister, Kaede, to burn the jewel with her body to prevent it from falling into the hands of evil.Kagome emerges into a strange wilderness, initially unaware that she has traveled back through time to the Sengoku period of Japan, fifty years after Kikyo's death. Other than the Bone Eater's Well itself, the only familiar landmark is Goshinboku. She finds InuYasha still sealed onto the tree in an enchanted sleep, and a group of hostile peasants who drag her back to their village. |

At first I wanted to rate it excellent, but then realized that it is far from being excellent. The reason why I love this anime, because of the basic idea, the atmosphere, most of the characters actually have characters, the music and the female characters who really could hold their ground even alone unlike in most similiar type animes, and did not have to be saved by the main hero all the time. And I also like the character developing. (Even if there weren't much.)

And I also like the character developing. (Even if there weren't much.)
The reasons why yet it did not earn the excellent rating are the following: the changing quality of how an episode was drawn freaked me out. Like the first episode was one of the best that I'seen ever drawn, around the twentieth episode there were more which could be only described as ugly. Also, why did not Naraku kill Inuyasha in one go while he stood a chance? It's like he was bored and wanted to make sure that he has some entertaining for the rest of his life.... Also, how that comes that Sesshoumaru couldn't beat Inuyasha, not even once. (Okay, there was one time.) Right, there is the Tessaiga at Inuyasha, but as we could see at their first fight he is far faster than him. Also the fillers. Really, not even Bleach has these kind of dumb fillers, but lucklily they usually do not last for more than three episodes.
Other than that, I can only recommend you to read the manga. In the anime they've changed sooo many things. Also the main character seems to be much dumber in the anime. ( show less)

The first thing that will annoy anyone who watches this is the filler. This isn't unique to this series, as all anime is full of flashbacks and drawn-out scenes, but I would say this series is slightly worse than average.
The characters are consistent and believable, apart from the intended fantasy. Some may not be interested in that, but I find it to be a very important part of a good story. The characters are consistent and believable, apart from the intended fantasy. Some may not be interested in that, but I find it to be a very important part of a good story. The character development in this series is top-notch - though that also has drawbacks as any character you may find annoying will continue to be consistently annoying throughout the entire series. To that end, the dialogue i rated as 'good' because, while no one says anything uncharacteristic for the purpose of furthering the plot, occasionally some characters say some stupid things because they are stupid characters.
Everything that happens seems to have a back-story that makes sense. The story is awesome right up until the end. I wont say the ending, but it is very anti-climactic. This alone isn't enough to downgrade a 'excellent' rating to a 'good' rating, but something else was amiss: the filler. There are actually two stories being told at the same time. There is the physically viewable story that anyone could tell you Inuyasha is about, but then there is also an emotional 'love-story' going on between the various characters. The physical story is great but could have been done at about 80 less episodes. The emotional story was okay, but overdone and repetitive - but then emotional stories aren't really my forte. If, however, you are into emotional stories or dramas, then this won't bother you and you will probably adore this story. I don't want to spell out what I'm insinuating, but this is totally an 'action chick flick.'
The animation i put as "average" just because it is, indeed, pretty much exactly like any other "hit" anime: in the early episodes the funding is low so the animation is kind of bad, in the latter episodes the funding is high so the animation is much improved.
And finally, it is an entertaining show - it has humor, action, drama, mystery... it's all good stuff. ( show less)

The base conception is the usual, the protagonists meet each other, formed a group of friends, then fighting mostly in all of the episodes, to the end, placed in an alternative feudal era Japan, where spirits and demons freely roam the world. But it mixed with a romantic "love-net" (u know, the who loves who, and how much) and with well-placed jokes (although Inuyasha's funny side become a bit boring w/o change). Looking back, the story was a bit simple and flat in overall, but still interesting in pieces, making u to watch the next ep. and the ( read more)

The animation is still good enough, and the opening/ending music is awesome.
I recommend for those who like the looong anime series, and/or the mixed fighting/romance/comedy ones. ( show less)
