Way back in 2003 it was really 'new' and unique, now I've seen some other animes that are as random or even more random than this show. It's surprisingly 'deep' as far as the story goes, mostly because literally nothing turns out about anything, we don't know who the villains and our heroes are.
I liked how short it was, it didn't get way too emotional like many others just in order to prolong the series, which is something really cool( I think almost everyone would agree upon this who watched the full series).

It's unpopularity, or more like nonexistent popularity is uncalled for, it's a lot like Gurren Lagann. I'm pretty sure that this show inspired the author of the said show.
I've read some reviews, and I can sorta understand those that gave it a 1 or 2, not a 5 or 4. You can only love or hate this show.
The rock BGM never stops, that can get irritating, but that was the only thing I didn't like about this show. ( show less)

Where to start with a series like FLCL. (at the beginning is usually a good idea) It starts of simply, a young boy with a crush and an older girl who is aware of it, both at a low point in their currently brief lives so far. Pretty much a standard fair for stories these days, but FLCL introduces one of the craziest characters I've witnessed in an animation shortly afterwards. Add into the mix a series of totally mind boggling events that involve robots bursting from peoples bodies followed by immensely entertaining if brief battles, a collection ( read more)

Add into the mix a series of totally mind boggling events that involve robots bursting from peoples bodies followed by immensely entertaining if brief battles, a collection of rare guitars being used as mallets and even the re-hydration of a dried out hulk of a corpse; the word bizarre cannot begin to contain the essence of the show.
The only way to judge the series, is to watch it yourself. If you like to be kept in the loop, then the show my not be for you, as some things aren't explained, either at all, or only in the last two episodes. I thoroughly urge anyone reading this to watch the show, even if it is just the first episode, you'll understand what I mean by bizarre. ( show less)

seriously, this series doesn't make much sense until you see the final episode, but then everything clicks into place and you feel awesome about yourself because you now understand what was a pretty crazy anime. But FLCL is a very well written and draws you in and keeps you there until everything makes sense. and then you go back and watch it again because it's that awesome :D
i would recommend this to people who like their anime viewing experience to be one where it really makes them think about what's going on and think about the characters ( read more)

First Time I saw this, I was thinking, "What the Hell?!" That's exactly what anyone will say when this anime is seen for the first time. Just when you think you've seen it all, the plot gets twisted a bit further. It stays that way trough out the whole story, never slowing down or going way out of the point. This is what Anime should be like and as far as I've seen, this will remain one of my favorites.

Honestly, if you think this anime just plain sucks, you just don't get it and are mad about it... Please don't be.
Before you watch: Think of this as a coming of age story with the craziest twist a writer could think of. Also, if you don't make it to the end (pretty hard considering the fact that it only takes a few hours) you won't be giving it the chance it deserves.
The prurient attitude is a bit too far for the age involved, which is why it only got a 4 in story (which actually started out as a three, until I remembered the end), so is the ( read more)

The prurient attitude is a bit too far for the age involved, which is why it only got a 4 in story (which actually started out as a three, until I remembered the end), so is the robot. Seriously! A ROBOT? too, schtick-y - too much of a cliche for anime - but the rest of the plot: enigmatic, divine, completely inspired, I have no idea who would have thought of such a brilliant place to put a wormhole, but, MY GOD, it's almost entirely what made me want to view each piece. The only writing that comes close is Paranoia Agent.
I wish someone would create an "Unusual Plot" keyword section, granted, many things would be placed in it that wouldn't be any near the same level, but how else do you put FLCL, Paranoia Agent, Hell Girl, Hakaba Kitaro, and Trigun (some of my favs.) in the same category? There have to be others I'm missing because the keywords I find interesting aren't relatable, or just not attatched, with what I'd like to see. ( show less)

This is one of the best anime ever created. It has had a profound influence on several others who work in the business both in Japan and the United States. The story is strange and a bit complex. If you like your anime simple and straightforward, this isn't for you. Still, the story is somewhat beside the point. The reason this anime has been so influential is its style. The animation, the voice actors, and the brilliant soundtrack combine to make this an incredibly unique work. It is a classic of the genre, and I don't use that term lightly.

First off, this is still one of my favorite series, so it saddens me when people only watch this once and toss it away saying stuff like "it makes no sense, its just random stuff thrown together with no plot"
It does have one, its just more subtle than most people are used to, FLCL is at its most basic a coming of age story, but you really cant pick up on that with just one viewing. I recommend at least three. The first time you watch it, sit back and just let it take you where it wants to. The second viewing you laugh at all the jokes and ( read more)

The second viewing you laugh at all the jokes and subtle references you missed the first go around. Its on the third that you can actually try to understand what the series is, and more importantly what its trying to tell you.
Personally I still laugh every time I watch this.... and has been mentioned before, the soundtrack kicks serious ass! ( show less)
