Summary: |
The inhabitants of the continent of Cruzon are born with the ability to freely control quartz. Technology based on this power allows them to perform a great multitude of tasks such as shoot projectiles and pilot mobile suits (called Golems in this society). Rygart Arrow is an un-sorcerer, a rare individual who is unable to levitate even the smallest crystal. Living with his brother on a farm, he receives a letter from an old friend, Hodr, the current king. Close companion of the king and queen when they were students at Assam Military School, Arrow is informed that a war is about to occur. Hodr called him because an ancient type of Golem has been found in a mining shaft. No one has been able to move it and queen Sigyn, an expert engineer, suspects that maybe an un-sorcerer might be the key to activate it. |

I find it irritating on this site.... whenever a new series comes out that is even vaguely mecha... everyone starts comparing it to Gundam.... Don't get me wrong, I like Gundam (Bit of a UC era fan personally) but not every mecha series is a Gundam.... if anything this show has more to do with say.... Vision of Escaflowne than anything else.
Off the soapbox though, on to the review:
I also have read most of the earlier manga chapters, so I was happy to see this one come out. If anything its a bit of an improvement, as no offense to the Manga Artist, but said artist was terrible at conveying action, panel to panel. The animation here however is smooth and makes far more sense (the mecha's being different color helps immensely too).
Story: The story is good, friends caught on opposite side of a rather ugly war. Both sides have their reasons for fighting, granted the antagonists of the series seem to have a slightly less noble stance.... well okay they have a rather large gap from where they stand and the term "Noble Stance", but the characters are good, and they work well and against each other well 4/5
Dialog: Okay, its not Shakespeare, but really until they decide to make an anime out of his plays... get used to being disappointed. What we have however is dialog that fits what the situation is, a world at war, where they use giant magical man piloted golems to better kill one another. 4/5
Animation: As stated earlier its a very well animated show, the action is smooth, and easy to follow (again way easier to follow than the Manga was) without being simplistic. So far they have mostly avoided the whole "Drive trails darting around each other" trope, and gone with good ole hand to hand/shooty type of combat. In many senses this is a welcome change in comparison to most. 5/5
Entertainment: All told its a great looking anime that is definitely a good way to spend a couple hours, thats largely what I ask for in my anime, and its definitely worth not only a watch but probably even a rewatch... 5/5
