Summary: |
The inhabitants of the continent of Cruzon are born with the ability to freely control quartz. Technology based on this power allows them to perform a great multitude of tasks such as shoot projectiles and pilot mobile suits (called Golems in this society). Rygart Arrow is an un-sorcerer, a rare individual who is unable to levitate even the smallest crystal. Living with his brother on a farm, he receives a letter from an old friend, Hodr, the current king. Close companion of the king and queen when they were students at Assam Military School, Arrow is informed that a war is about to occur. Hodr called him because an ancient type of Golem has been found in a mining shaft. No one has been able to move it and queen Sigyn, an expert engineer, suspects that maybe an un-sorcerer might be the key to activate it. |

It is indeed one of the best and awesome mecha anime I have ever watched! From childhood friends/ best friends to enemy then to a nations war, just wow! The story lines are just great and I really wished if they continues this episodes rather than just stopping it at episodes 6 which is the ending of this series. I really hope this new season of break blade (2014) will be more awesome and continue to where they had finished in episodes 6.

I can’t stress anymore than what previous reviewers have already stressed about this mini-OVA series; it honestly blew me away. I was expecting an original plot-line (especially since it’s a mecha anime) but Production IG NEVER fails to impress me from time to time.
This OVA wasn’t meant to be a new favorite cause honestly… I’m already hooked on Zetsuen no Tempest: Civilian Blaster (and still waiting for more awesome episodes), but I also have the upcoming Shinjeki no Kyojin to look forward to (all of which deliver awesome manga stories). ( read more)

So to unexpectedly come across this jewel of an OVA really makes me happy and quite frankly, I’m not sure why there aren’t more fans of this series.
On to the actual review: the storyline is amazing… I can’t find any other word to describe it. I don’t know if there was another one like it before, but this was a first for me and I loved it. I didn’t read the manga first, but I plan to go back and do just that to see if the story goes any further. I was hooked from the first OVA; as a matter of fact, I watched them all today. Dialogue; again, it kept me hooked for more. There was enough dialogue to keep you informed of the story, and what was going on, but I was satisfied when the fighting started that the main character didn’t talk my ear off with his regrets. I’m still upset I didn’t hear the one sentence I wanted to know the most about… but I won’t put spoilers here. ;)
Animation… I’m at a loss because I don’t want to describe it wrong; simply superb! Not only were the characters and architecture amazing, but when it came to the mechs actually fighting, I can tell someone did their homework! The sound effects made it all the better because it felt so realistic (even for an anime) and I found myself clinging on the cup I was drinking from because I couldn’t keep my eyes away from the fight scenes. The character development was rushed, but if it was a longer series, I would’ve watched it. I’m not sure if that was what the manga writer wanted, but I think more episodes would’ve done the story more justice. There was a lot left unexplained, but I read online somewhere that the story isn’t finished, so maybe they didn’t want to over-lap the story. Just like D Gray Man…
Overall entertainment: I’d watch it again… not sure when cause I like to keep finding more rare jewels like this to watch, but I would certainly watch it more than once and I’m definitely going to make my friends try the out. Download this anime and I’m honestly going to buy the BluRay if I can find it online cause it’s worth it. ( show less)

This short series is one of the best I short series I have watched. That and the fact that this series combined Mech battles in an interesting way that I can only compare to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. They very different though but I compare the two because they both get you fired up and in suspense throughout each and every battle. The series is focused on a war with golem Mech units but its incredibly well done the battles draw you right into it that is all I will say though anymore would ruin the series.

The story is centered around a young man named Rygart Arrow, an 'un-sorcerer' born into a world where people can use 'magic'. Despite this 'limitation', in his youth he managed to befriend Hodr and Sigyn, the future King and Queen of the Krisna Kingdom and Zess, the younger brother of the Secretary of War of the Athens Commonwealth.
Years later, Rygart is reunited with Hodr and Sigyn where he learns the Athens Commonwealth has begun an invasion of Krisna. Rygart is also shocked to learn that their old friend, Zess, is leading one of the strike forces. While at the capital, Rygart discovers that he has the ability to pilot a recently discovered ancient golem which cannot be piloted by magic users. Despite its ancient origins, the golem possesses capabilities and systems far more advanced than any modern golem, and could be key to turning the tide of battle. While hesitant at first, Rygart soon gets involved in the war between Krisna and Athens, in an attempt to save Hodr and Sigyn, and Zess. ( show less)

Considerably one of my favorite anime to watch break blade has all the familiar characteristics of other mecha robot fights yet the manner in which they fight and conduct is unique. The power source is the pilots themselves except for one exception. Awesome storyline with memorable characters and depth. Beautiful animation and even though episodes are few they are about twice in length of other anime shows which allows the story to progress further without many breaks in between.
