Astarotte's Toy first struck me as something weird, funny & new! The story about a child succubus, Astarotte, trying desperately to evade the fact she has to have her first "man seed" in order to create her own harem thus become a full pledge succubus while at the same time trying to deal with her personal insecurities is a good premise. The awkwardness between Astarotte and Naoya was good to watch and the revelation that despite his young age he already have a daughter was quite a shocker! Another fun element is that they share something in common which happens to be her mom and that 's where things becomes a lot more complicated. With a story like this you would expect pure comedy and ecchi unfortunately the downside about this anime is the poor characterization and slow paced story. The characters seems to be a bit too easy going and nice and the story seems to focus more on Astarotte trying to reconnect with her mother and trying to live a normal life instead of her getting over her "man problem." There's no female rival and there is only 1 male rival for Naoya which totally destroyed the "harem concept." Though there are a lot of women in the series none of them seems to have any attraction to the male lead which is strange considering the fact that he's the only human male around. Lastly, the story ended without clearing up the family issues which could have given more depth to the series. Despite the interesting and complicated plot twist the series fails to deliver a solid story and the right amount of comedy and entertainment value it is expected to produce. ( show less)
