When i first saw the trailer for Blue Exorcist it peek my interest that i immediately read the manga just to see if it really was that interesting and i immediately liked the storyline and couldn't wait to watch it get animated. The story about twin brothers, Rin & Yukio Okumura, who decided to become Exorcist in order to avenge the death of their adopted father who is killed by no other than their "true" dad who happens to be the king of hell himself, Satan, definitely caught my attention. Another interest part is that only one of the siblings, Rin, inherited demonic powers while the younger brother, Yukio, manage to become a meister in both dragoon and doctor class. There is also the part where both brother is trying to keep their demonic heritage a secret from the rest of the Vatican order due to the fact that large a number of powerful exorcist was killed by Satan during the so-called "Blue Night." Unfortunately, the series suffered from weak and mediocre sub-plots, crappy fight scenes and low character build-up partly. At first i manages to stay true to the manga adding a few scenes like the one where they got attack by "zombie dogs" and the church being target by a possess and derange bully which were actually great, however, due to the slow paced of the manga it decided to create a story of it own which despite the effort it didn't go well with the actual story and resulted in crappy shallow ending. We didn't see Rin's struggle to keep his flames in check, his friends confusing after learning he was Satan' spawn (specially Bon & Konekumaru), or Yukio being tempted to embrace his demonic side by another fellow demon-spawn exorcist gone rogue. We didn't see any of the other characters personal history (except for Sheimi) like Bon's issue with his dad and clan or Renzo's carefree attitude in order to hide his insecurities. All of these could have been incorporated in the series and if they just followed the manga and ended with a Season 1 instead of creating an ending that didn't give the series much justice. This anime is truly...overrated. I completely agree, this anime went off with a bang. Blue Exorcist's firsts few episodes were terrific, however... --------> [ S P O I L E R A L E R T] <------- After Shiro's death, It completely went downhill. Many characters... were just outsiders in the story. What was up with Mephisto? He's on the Vatican's side one minute, and Satan's the next! This anime ended with so many plot holes, I'm starting to wonder if that was intentional or just to piss us off.

I don't know if this was the intention, but what the hell is up with the last episode making me sorry for Satan? LOL? (show less)

I was rather excited to start this anime since there are quite a few people who praised this anime highly, the first episode was interesting, after that.. it went downhill.

The animation with the blue flames is simply ridiculous, the sword fights and character movements in combat are a joke to other battle-animes and the story just became another copy of so many other son of the devil will be a good guy and every friend of his first beats him up and then becomes his friend. The guys look decent in the anime but what's with the women in this anime, can they be drawn more unattractive than the current ones, no.

I'm not a hater, I simply was reading the reviews of the previous people and so I thought I'd give it a go, well... or those people have a completely other taste or this one of their first animes they ever saw and can't compare it to the "better" ones.

To me, a big dissapointment. People are overrating this anime, if everyone is honest they should admit that the animation is awful for such a new anime and the story isn't fancy, new or refreshing. (show less)

The reason i said green... well, it's because there's one word in the title resembles the meaning of GREEN in Chinese. But whatever....

Story is decent. Not too great, but not bad either.
Music video was cool but the music itself is so so. Well, maybe it's too mainstream or i dunno... just felt it's so so for me.
Dialogue. Well, Shounen dialogue, you can't expect much from that either.
Animation.... nice, beautiful. Although there's some repeat scene but it's WAY BETTER THAN STAR DRIVER.

And lastly.... Entertainment... a 3 for me. I'm not too hype watching this anime because the story is dragging. And somehow i don't feel any climax in their fight... maybe they just end too fast or too predictable.

As conclusion, this is a typical shounen anime for me which is not bad but not awesome. Feel free to enjoy this yourself if you are a fan of Shounen anime (show less)

I'm on ep 16 by now, but I feel like I can already make a clear un-biased reviex on this anime, here goes nothing.
Story: not that original, different settings, yet the son of satan-exorcist-other face of the catholic church theme is way too used by now, could have done better.
Dialogue: major failure as every damn shounen. "Let's be friends!" "I'm here for you!" "Oh no! I touch her hand! hope she doesn't get pregnant!" "Me, the random generic hero will defeat the random generic villian!" Get the idea? nothing new here, been there, done that. I wished really bad for the mohawk dude to keep antagonizing the protagonist, but deep down I knew it won't happen. Just another random shounen where world peace is attained in the end, the bad guy dies and all the happy ever after things.
Animation: The only plus. Man A-1 Pictures know how to do their job it comes to animation. Wanna see mindblowing graphics and amazing fight sequences? This is your anime, if you don't care for the history and the dialogue.
Entertainment: Meh... it's good to burn idle time, but if you wanna see some real anime about occult things and other what not in this series I'd recommend other animu.
Overall: It's another so-so shounen anime for the mindless masses, excellent animation but lacking in other departments, if the plot wasn't so predictable it may have caught my eyes, yet it's not the case.
Recommended anime: Don't know if I can do this or not, but I think this makes the review more useful. If you want to watch a series with this themes I'd recommend you this series, from good to better (LOL): D.Gray-Man, Hellsing, Witch Hunter Robin and Ghost Hound. (show less)
