"Yamishibai is a picture-story style of animation whose motif is surrounded and based off the rumors, and urban legends throughout the history of Japan.”

First off: WOAH! This anime is on TIN? I didn't even know until I saw it uploaded today, I got the episodes from Horrible Subs's torrents a while ago, wouldn't have thought I'd see them here.
Second: Woah at the tags! This is meant to be mature horror? It's not. Sure enough, it's creepy enough not to be kid-safe, yet there have been no zombies, no vampires, no gore... it's plain unadulterated creepiness. It does that job quite well, nevertheless I wouldn't go as far as to name it horror/mature. Personal takes though...
For the anime, I can't say much so far but I'll try. There's not much to be said about the story; there's no overarching plot, each episode is basically one small sub-story of four to five minutes duration, yet they're good enough for bits of creepiness and entertainment. Characters thus are rather forgettable, however the dialogue is conveyed well. The animation's a bit odd, yet the art looks good, and the music is awesome for the setup.
Yami Shibai is essentially folktale goods with hints of horror. It completely falls out of anime pattern, the episodes being as short as they are, and each episode featuring not only a different story but also hugely different characters, yet it's creepy enough to be entertaining, and definitely a good enough five-minute watch for the occasional chill while it's still warm on the northern half of Earth. ;) It's not something that left me craving for the next episode but it's definitely good enough to check out if you're into slightly creepy folktales.
8/10 from me, for the sheer entertainment factor and creepiness. :P
