Summary:
A female mecha pilot tries to keep in touch with her boyfriend on earth while she is in space using cell phone text messages. The farther away they get from each other, the harder it is for the text messages to get to each other.
More-than-short but honestly emotional, “Voices of a Distant Star” is sure to tug heart strings!
It's only about 25 minutes, but these 25 minutes surprise with an excellent story concept, well-done characters, and raw emotion and bonds. Longing, hopelessness, and patience are depicted beautifully, with a couple each following their own dreams but still keeping in contact. The dialogue might need a bit getting used to, as it is mostly communication via cell-phones, but it is definitely heart-touching. The animation is surprisingly good with excellent art-style and music that surely helps getting the emotion across. For those looking out for a calm, soft, but heart-tugging anime, this is one of the shortest (and no doubt, there are anime with better closure out there), but in terms of emotion, it's also one of the best in my book.
