There's something profoundly genuine about this alternate storyline of Tokyo Ghoul which deviates from the source material quite a bit as a 'What-If' scenario where Kaneki falls victim to the predatorial ideals of Rize and joins Aogiri despite their obviously tainted motives and outright villainous nature. What this season shows us is exactly how easy it is to fall into the pattern of 'The Strong Will Survive, SO Nothing Else Matters' and ignore the nuances of life. Kaneki doesn't break character as he still is plagued by his internal conflict and is not sure himself if he is doing the right thing by joining the enemy.
All that aside, my goodness the musical score for this is otherworldly. I have most of these songs and OST on their own playlist for how perfectly they capture the mood of the moments and characters; From Touka's bittersweet reunion with Kaneki, to Suzuya's relearning what it means too be human again beside Shinohara, there's so much in here to take away on your music collection all i can say is Yamada Yukata possibly did his best work ever on this anime in particular with piano gems like Father, Memories, Reflection, and so on.
Even if i gave this season an 8 it deserves a 9 just for the score alone and because I'm a very auditory oriented person so that's my bias.
KanekixTouka is the only anime ship i've rooted for and glad too i did cuz manga readers if you know you know :)
