Honestly at first the whole thought of magicial girls fighting creatures with the power of music (well in this case they have to sing in order to us their powers) and then having the same characters as pop idols seemed well...stupid. But it wasn't until I watched the first ep (now finished ep 4) that I realized..."Holy Fuck, this is one of THOSE magicial girl animes (Madoka Magica reference)" I'm not comparing it to Madoka, but they are similar in the fact that its a pretty dark plot and the things they fight look oddly animated. That said...the battle animation is superb, I wouldn't classify it as Mecha but still, the fight scenes are well animated along with the fact that it has a really good soundtrack considering they have to sing when they fight. Now I won't spoil it, but you should know what classifies this as a Dark Magicial Girl anime:
There's actual blood (hell, even a character is bleeding from her eyes)
There's actual violence as in slicing stuff (though the creatures they fight seem to lack any blood at all)
Innocent NPC's die
Characters have their own psychoctic/creepy moments
A MAIN CHARACTER DIES!!!! (note, that's not a spoiler since its the first ep). But the good thing about this show is that if you grew attacted to the dead character then you'll see them frequently in the next few eps during flashbacks. So at least the character isn't technically off the show. The only issue I have with this show (at least with the first ep) is that they talk really over dramatic, like "Don't Give into Death!" and other cheesy stuff. They could do wihtout those lines. But either ways, if you liked Madoka Magica then I reccomend this show for you.
