The story takes place in a fantasy world and revolves around a 15-year-old girl named Pacifica Casull, who is the sister in a set of twins born to the royal family of a kingdom called Leinwan and then, literally, thrown away. The 5111th Grendel Prophecy predicts that she will be the "poison that will destroy the world" if she reaches her sixteenth birthday. To prevent this she is dropped off a cliff as an infant ("scrapped"). Believed to be dead, her survival remains no more than a rumour until she is already 15 years old.
Scrapped Princess is an interesting title that somehow managed to grab my attention. There are already several lengthy and well thought out reviews so I won't add tons of detail to those.
The fantasy world in Scrapped Princess is probably the most unique aspect of this series. In some ways it reminded me of Utawarerumono with the mix of sci-fi and fantasy, past and future. It really is a clever mix that works well...
Story-wise Scrapped Princess is really solid and that for me was the primary reason I enjoyed this series. Although it does tend to be linear, as with many "adventure" stories, that works to its advantage as the story is able to progress and you gradually come to learn the truth behind the "scrapped" Princess.
Technically the artwork as previously mentioned is average, detailed at times and sloppy at others. I did enjoy the music which helped to set the tone and the mood of the era...
It did have several twists and turns and a deft weaving of drama and humour which also earns it a few points... one could wish it had more romance or that the romance was somehow a little more fleshed out but that wasn't a major detraction.
Overall, Scrapped Princess was a very enjoyable watch that kept me guessing and held my attention throughout the series.
