At first I thought this show was about sailors and boats or something, just by judging by the picture. After watching a first impression video on youtube and seeing that the main focus was jazz music in the 60s I became intrigued.
There really isn't a main story here. It started out as a love triangle between the main group of friends but then just moved on to developing the friendships between the 3 main characters. The way they executed what story they had, was pretty impressive. It served for some real emotional scenes, that weren't all over-dramatic, which was a great thing. The animation is completely outstanding! The attention to detail they give for when everybody is playing their instruments is really impression. All in all Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope) is a great emotional slice of life anime, with an amazing soundtrack as well!
