One Piece....
What to say, This anime is in my top ten and that's saying something b/c I've seen over 300 anime series. Most people that I talk too, that don't like One Piece, complain about one of three things.
1st. They say its too childish.
Then I come back with "Government corruption, Human trafficking-Slavery, prejudice, murdering sociopaths... childish I think not" It takes about 30-40ish episodes to really get you hooked up until then if you like it you like it, if you don't stick it out its well worth it.
2nd. Thing I here people complain about is the animation
And to this I must agree...Only to an extent though. There are certainly higher quality animations out there, however this anime has been in production since 1999 that's 12 years, back then this anime was very well animated for its time, and I would say changing the style in the middle of the series would be an abomination to this anime. First I suggest you give the story and characters a chance to grow on you and then, I'll think you'll come to love the animation.
The 3rd. thing I here complaints about is the the shear length of this anime. I think were up to 520 episodes.
I Think what causes the fear of watching all these episodes relates to the first two issues above. That people think they will be suffering through hundreds of episodes of bad plot's and terrible animation. Its quite the opposite, after you get into it a few episodes you want the next one and then the next, and the next and the next. I started watching this anime when episode 430 came out. It took me a bit to get into, but once I did, I watched every episode in just under 6 weeks.
So give it a shot. One Piece is an artful masterpiece, and defiantly worth your time. Eiichiro Oda is a genius!

A word of caution:
Avoid the Dubbed versions of this anime Like the Plague.
4Kids massacred it. (terrible voice actors, removal of anything "bad" i.e. cigarettes, deaths, its not good)
Funimation tried. But like always their voice actors ruined it.
