I think Naruto is very enjoyable to watch. The Characters are the biggest plus in my opinion, because honestly most of the story isn't very special at all. But among the characters there are really lots of people who are just interesting and you will have your favorites without a doubt.
Though the story isn't all that special there are however some interesting secrets and plots that make you want to watch this anime and make it worth watching.
Flashbacks and long repeating dialogues are sometimes annoying but thanks to today's technology you can skip them.
And be sure to skip the fillers, as in Bleach, they're just horribly boring and out of logic. ( The ones with the 6-Tails Jinchuuriki were okay ).
The soundtrack of Naruto is good and fits the atmosphere. I love most of the openings, especially Blue Bird by Ikimono Gakari.
Shippuuden is a little bit darker than Naruto and that makes it even better for older watchers.
You won't be disappointed but also not overwhelmed it's just nice to watch and you want to see what happens to your beloved characters.
To say it shortly it's entertaining and surely a good anime in these days, but it isn't the best in the world either!
