pros
+ nice to see lee & co in a new setting
+ can be quite funny where it tries
+ colourful and flashy
cons
- no plot, only random things lined up along the original anime's storyline
- childish as heck in its presentation, and jokes are getting overused
- the animation doesn't exactly look good
conclusion: dropped, and that's that. hold your horses! i didn't say that was it for my review.
i must admit this series isn't really what i expected. a comedic spin-off of the original naruto? seriously? i mean, yes, it can be funny where it tries (look at tenten and kabuto constantly breaking the fourth wall), but other than that? it's nice to see lee & co. in a less serious setting, but they could easily have set up their comedic trio without just about 80% of the childishness. i don't mind kiddy jokes, but if 90% of the show's right that, that's kinda odd. not to mention some gags get repeated a dozen times and more often. then, there's a bunch of explanations anyone who watched even five episodes of the original naruto series won't need, and the characters look like flat copies of their originals. even if comedy rarely relies on story that much, they could have done something about the charas. and the animation's chibis running around in settings cut out from a picture book... at least they look like that. it's quite colourful, and the music's okay enough, but that's it for that.
bottom line: probably meant for kids who never heard of naruto before, to pull them into the franchise as well. if you're older, unless you're in for excessive cuteness and find that anywhere it says 'chibi', this is something that overall probably won't please the palate. the overall result doesn't do it for me at least.
peace.
