Summary:
For decades, the Galactic Empire has been locked in an interstellar war with the Free Planets Alliance, a conflict that involves thousands of spaceships and millions of soldiers on both sides. Two new commanders enter the conflict with great hopes: Imperial Admiral Reinhard von Lohengramm and the FPA's Yang Wen-Li. As they deal with superiors and subordinates, maneuver through complicated political arrangements, plot strategies, and win battles, each will be tested, and ultimately, changed, by the reality of war.

This anime is rather old but has one of the best stories anime's have to offer.
The anime includes political plots, space / hand to hand combat and the perspective of many factions ( Free Planet Alliance / Galactic Empire / Phezzan mostly, as well as numerous smaller groups which try to influence things like the Terran cult and traders)
Do not expect shallow dialogue and single space ships destroying half a fleet ( Hi gundam) its rather realistic in a sense that there is no overpowered mumbojumbo.
As I said the anime is old and the graphics are not as great as they are today but the story / great battles make up for this plentiful.
