Yet another 4 girl school anime which really deserves its own genre now and taken out of the whole school anime theme as there are far too many of them now to be classified as just school anime. However, despite it being a school girl anime show, it has something that most school animes in general do not have and that is a PLOT! Though it is a plot that is really just to focus what they are doing and not develop it much, the story is there and they do stick to it which I did enjoy. The plot also did bring all the characters together very nicely and not just start them out as all friends and gave them a sense of connection unlike most other school girl animes which start out most if not all the characters as friends.
The genre of slice of life is fairly accurate as the show does have some fun accurate life problems in it for not only Japanese viewers but also with American viewers especially if you are starting up a club. Of course most of the holiday traditions would probably not pertain to America... Yes they have the Christian holidays but the way they celebrate some of the holidays are not the way Americans do. That being said, it just means that the show did a good job in actually making it slice of life and not just Japanese Slice of Life.
As for Comedy, there were humorous parts in it but not everything was very amusing when they were trying to hit you with a joke. They overuse Yui's incredible gift of being clumsy and stupid and though it is funny at some points, too much of a good thing... well you know. They mainly focus on Slapstick and slice of life for their comedic scenes and as funny as slapstick is, there was really just too much abuse on Ritsu which got fairly annoying after a while as great as Mio and Ritsu's pairing is, it gets redundant.
Melodrama Alert - About halfway through, the show makes a little hop into melodrama for some odd reason, I guess it was too be expected but it was not why I was watching this anime. Introducing a fifth girl who is the loli girl in every way... more importantly the loli cat girl, we get to see this built up melodrama occur and every melodrama scene pretty much involves this girl, Azusa. I'm not really against drama but melodrama is just silly. Like Clannad, the drama scenes are just way too overthetop and appear more lame then actually affective. This is one thing that all animes are vulnerable to though. However, the melodrama events did bring the show back into their main goal as the personality set would tend to drift the show away from the original goal which the story constantly shows them doing so the melodrama events were needed but could have been done better to A) Represent Slice of Life Better and B) Not make it look like it was poorly written.
Beyond all this you have the noteworthy and common scenes you see in ALL Schoolgirl animes such as the Beach episode... we get two this time and the girl who tans very well (Which she becomes untan in the next episode showing no signs of ever having a tan which is weird but I'll just assume that father time worked his magic. Christmas episode and blah blah blah all the good stuff.
For anime clubs, if you are a club president, I recommend showing this at the beginning when people are walking in as it is light and good for background entertainment. Overall though the entertainment is there and it is enjoyable, just not good or amazing... average and worth watching.
Music and sfx - Music is very entertaining actually I love the songs that they sing the rest background music fit and overall the music made the show amusing which is why this is a good anime club opening show. Sfx are really cutesy and cartoony in the show which fits the animation very well.
Animation was really well done and cute, nothing really overused and there were some pauses due to "
picture taking" but it was effective so I have no complaints.
The Dialog was good but as I said before there were times where the dialog would just get overused and boring.
Characters
I really honestly have no huge complaints about the characters.
The characters fit very nicely with each other and worked well in complementing each other.
Yui - Overly stupid sometimes
Sawako - She is the only prolem I have with the characters. I have seen so many teachers like her that I am just getting sick and tired of that personality as it is redundant overused and really needs to be different already. Of course it fit with her background but it is just ridiculous how many characters act like that. It really is no longer entertaining anymore to see someone act like that. Of course she did have her moments and I liked parts of her character its just the personality bothers me.
THE END! (
