~gasp gasp gasp~ I just finished watching this anime! Don't get me wrong now, this anime is actually exceptionally good in its uniqueness in many areas...I really loved it as a romantic comedy! it's just not quite fit for the faint-hearted, or those who can't manage extremely embarrassing scenes, etc. (like me.....) So take care!
Itazura na Kiss doesn't quite possess a plot that strikes as "wow!", but somehow, it makes up for that with a "SUGOI MY PACE!" movement throughout the series that will have you hanging on real tight. The series is one of those rare ones that spans over many years into the main characters' lives. The pace is actually pretty well done, but it was extremely stunning in its fastness. However, the anime is still filled with hilarious moments, kawaii moments, cringe-worthy moments, and cry-worthy moments, x 100 all jumbled up in 25 episodes! Package deal~! for romantic comedy fans (who can stand an incredible amount of drama!)
The main heroine is a notable one. Never have I encountered a main character like her! Right from the first episode to the very last, I blushed for her, I cringed for her, I squeezed my eyes shut for her, plugged my ears, and went "Okay~ maybe I'll skip over this part a bit...ehehehe". However, I ended up really loving her, because she is perfectly capable of winning you over. You'll cheer her on! As well as do those other things I've mentioned, no change there... Her counterpart isn't nearly as unique. The guy is a very well developed character, nevertheless, and very handsome and dashing!
This anime is not without any faults though. To criticize a bit (I was praising, for all the above, by the way), the animation is not the best on the eyes, and it somewhat seems old in quality for its premiere date...Also, besides the really nice opening, the musical soundtrack doesn't strike me as good either. The dramatic mood would have been improved by a better soundtrack (though really, it's dramatic enough...). The plot is as fast as a bullet, but even then, I felt choppy-ness and uneven-ness. Sometimes, Irie-kun's feelings were quite late. The evolution of their story is great, but it lacks smoothness for the audience, hence increasing the emotional demand...(ugh, back to that again)
Overall, WATCH IT!!!! Maybe don't watch it in 2 days like me, but still watch it, and I'm sure you'll like it! Take some time and be patient with the heroine and it will be well worth your time! I pray for Kotoko-chan's future...
