Another work by Shinkai Makoto-san, this film surprises with an interesting, highly fantasy-flavoured concept and excellently executed plot with many emotions, showing friendship, familial love, bits of romance, drama, and tragedy. (For some reason the whole story with its fantasy aspect and everything reminded me of Irish folklore, though I’m still puzzled as to why that is ^^') The characters are easy to feel with and well-developed, with excellent dynamics and development for a movie. Dialogue has a good flow and helps in getting the emotion. The art style is unique, with a weird kind of beauty to it, and the animation, though it has its hiccups here or there, is pretty good overall. For the entertainment factor, there’s not much comedy in here, but “Children who Chase Lost Voices” is a rather calm movie among today’s anime, relaxing yet intriguing at the same time. For those looking for a well-executed plot without too much action but with excellent character design, this is definitely worth the watch. Enjoy!~
