Summary: |
The year is 1924, the place, Sauville, a small European country neatly tucked beside the Alps... Kazuya Kujo has been studying abroad at the prestigious Saint Marguerite Academy, where urban legends and horror stories are all the rage. Most Kazuya ignores but the story of the Queen Berry, a mysterious ghost ship, really gets to him. Of course, his brainy friend Victorique is much more intrigued by true stories, and she uses her unrivaled logic to solve mysteries even the town's famous detective can't. Ironically, it is Victorique's inquisitive nature that leads the duo to board a ship that matches the Queen Berry's description to a tee, a ship that might just hold the key to solving a sinister mystery... |

You're introduced to Kujo Kazuya, a Japanese transfer student in St. Marguerite's academy. He meets Victorique, a doll-like looking girl with a temper like that of an old lady but excellent deductive reasoning. Kujo may always dislike Victorique's treatment towards him and Victorique may always call Kujo an idiot but, deep inside they see each other as inseparable best friends. However, as more cases pop up, there are forces including a secret that threatens to tear their friendship apart.
The beginning of the series is not exactly slow but, it's not exactly the most gripping plot line. I remember watching 5 episodes and stopping. Some cases are predictable in who is the culprit and such but the more interesting part is about Victorique's family history. That is probably the strongest selling point of Gosick. Things get repetitive and it becomes annoying especially with the small arguments between Kujo and Victorique. You can say it's childish but it fits with their personalities. After my break, I continued to watch and ended up finishing all 24 episodes. Episodes 13 and so on becomes more exciting because that is when they start unraveling Victorique's past. The ending you can say is bittersweet.
Beautiful animation. The staff spent a lot time on the backgrounds and such. The entertainment is not as high as I thought it would be. I wouldn't say it's a horrible series but, I would watch it to past some time and think a little.
