Ryuugamine Mikado is a boy who longs for the exciting life of the big city. At the invitation of his childhood friend Masaomi, he transfers to a school in Ikebukuro. Masaomi has warned him about people he doesn't want to cross in the city: a champion fighter, an informant, and a mysterious gang called "Darazu." Nervous from Masaomi's stories, Mikado witnesses an urban legend on his first day in the city, the Headless Rider astride a black motorcycle. From then on, the existence of supernatural cases and a gang called the Yellow Turbans will rise to the surface, and Ikebukuro will pushed to the breaking point.
This takes the place as one of the best Animes that I have seen for the year. Durarara manages to take what is usually an urban story, and twist in such a way that you can't tell head from toes. The story might appear to be too complex, but what that does is to create a maze formed by the stories of all the protagonist. You won't really know what is what in Durarara until the very end; with every episode giving you a small piece of the mosaic. The dialogues are interesting and keep the pace of the anime overall. The animation in itself might appear a little bit too simplistic (if you like high levels of detail) but it works well for the story, and has an underlying reason for it. If I was to point any negative aspects, it would be the ending... it gives you a sense of cliffhanger, as if the story hasn't ended. The Anime reflects only 3 of the 7 light novels that have been written for Durarara, so I hope we can get new seasons in the future.
