In my personal beliefs, I believe that clannad and clannad after story are amazing. Why? Well, because I found it amazing ^.^ not a great reason I know but it works for me. This is a Romance story mainly revolving around characters named Nagisa and Tomoya with some side characters that are in my opinion very well developed with their own tribute episodes to help develop them. Very touching story, I am a person who tries my best to either hide tears or saddening emotions, or not have them at all. But this series, it hit me very hard and am astonished with the outcome of each series.
I will openly admit that I have illegally downloaded them to watch, and am now waiting to receive them in the mail at this moment from buying the first series off a legitimate website (its where funimation will link you to for some of their products) and the second straight from japan (if that says anything about my enjoyment).
I watch a lot of anime of many genres. There are very few to no anime that I will say it is a must watch, but I'm breaking that now, and saying this IS a must watch anime. Appropriate for all ages. I would suggest to be at least mid-teen or older to any age just for the fact of actual understanding of things.
After Story picks up where the first series closes, so you would have to watch the first to understand the characters better and the way that are. When I had first watched the first series I was hook and couldn't help myself to continue to watch the second. I am 99% sure you will think the same way I did.
