Summary: |
Kurosaki Ichigo is a 15 year old boy that has an ability to see ghosts/spirits. Because of his ability, he is able to meet a female death god (a.k.a Shinigami) named Kuchiki Rukia. To save his family and friends from unwanted soul-eating spirits (Hollows), Rukia transfers her Shinigami powers to Ichigo. As Rukia takes on a human shell, together they solve mysteries involving spirits and hollows until from the spirit world comes 2 other shinigamis explaining that it is illegal to transfer Shinigami powers to humans and Rukia exceeded the time limit to stay in the human world. After they sentence her death for breaking the laws, Ichigo snaps and swears to everyone he will retrieve Rukia by breaking into the spirit world. |

I started watching Bleach some years ago, and I liked it as one can like a shonen series; for its nice action, exciting moments of awesome, badass heroes, moves, weapons, and so on. And trust me, if you enjoy this kind of stuff, you want to watch it - the first 63 episodes, that is.
Because after that, something of a long filler arc starts. When it's actually filler, it's filler; when it follows the manga, it's almost impossible to tell, as it looks like filler anyway. Don't mistake me: manga episodes are better than filler ones - but that's because filler episodes are truly TERRIBLE. The animation is discontinuous, can vary from "horrible" to "awesome" in the space of a few episode; but what truly lacks is plot. It simply isn't there. You got a villain whose actions make less and less sense as time goes by. Plot holes everywhere. A writer who obviously FORGETS his characters and his own actions now and then, as people disappears without a reason, or things which seemed really important at first suddenly are not mentioned anymore; sometimes you hear a line which feels like it's a hint to something really important, then it's like no-one ever said that, while truly important twists come without any warning, giving the very bad feeling of a mangaka who's writing his story as it goes, without planning ahead at all. Lately it's been bad. Having read the manga, I can tell it's going to be WORSE. Just forget about hopes of all of this actually MAKING SENSE. So yeah. I keep on watching it because I enjoy the music and the battles; just don't expect too much of it, you'll be disappointed.
