In the year 2021, mankind was decimated by the epidemic of Gastrea, a parasitical virus, and is forced to live within Monoliths, which are created from Varanium: a metal that is able to subdue Gastrea. Soon, the "Cursed Children", children born with the Gastrea virus who are able to control it, which gives them superhuman abilities, are discovered. Due to the Gastrea virus' intervention, the Cursed Children could only be female. Civil Securities are formed to specialize fighting against Gastrea, operating with the pair of an Initiator, who are cursed children, and a Promoter, serving to lead the cursed children. Ten years after the epidemic, Rentarō Satomi, a high school student who is also a Promoter in his childhood friend Kisara Tendō's Tendō Civil Security, along with his Initiator Enju Aihara, receives a secret mission to prevent the Tokyo Area's destruction. |

The most hyped anime of Spring 2014 from what I've seen. So I decided to watch it in the end. Was expecting something awing, but to my disappointment it's generic, with poor characters, bad pacing and a super bad production.
It starts off well, a setting similar to SnK, with the human race driven to endangerment because of a virus called "gastrea". The only hope is the "cursed children", who are basically the children of people affected by gastrea. Parallel to SnK, these cursed children could be taken as the "titan shifter", and the walls of "varanium" i.e the only metal that is able to subdue a gastrea as the walls of SnK. But this is where the comparison ends (aside from the main character being noisy like the main character of SnK), because opposite to SNK's super slow pacing, Black Bullet is super rushed.
The first episode is good, I'll give that. It evoked some interest in me, which is why I continued watching it. But the second episode, unfortunately had a very messy production, and a super rushed pacing. The production quality and writing is of an amateur-level. The third episode doesn't do anything to redeem it either, on the contrary it makes it even worse. The fight between Kagetane and Rentaro - it'd have been okay if they didn't exaggerate the loss of Rentaro. He was shot 2 times, stabbed multiple times, yet he miraculously survived - too surreal even for an anime. Then came the fourth episode which was just... I'm gonna leave it at this.
Anyway, that was my breaking point. On to the positive, the music is awesome. The OP is exciting and strong - which fits the theme of the whole show. And the animation is very good, the characters are cool looking, it looks good all in all.
Verdict, I'd recommend it to people who doesn't care about pacing or writing of an anime, but if you do - better stay away from it as it'll only frustrate you in the end. 3.2/5 rating from me.
