Angel Beats combines a somewhat upbeat comedy with good action scenes and an incredible plotline and character development. The scripts were well-written and the animation was very detailed, especially with the small easter eggs scattered throughout the series (like KEY soda). Above all this anime shows that KEY is as good at anime as it is at visual novels, and continues to live up to its reputation of excellence. By that same token, the mere fact that it was created by KEY serves to better illustrate the overlying depressing themes that are ever present in the series. This makes the show not for the faint of heart, especially the individual backstories of the characters. All in all though, this is definitely one of the best animes out there, and gets a 10/10.
